Once in every week, me and my husband, take some time out for ourselves to go out and connect with each other..just the two of us.. aka a Date night. For us, its either a dinner somewhere or some movie in the theatre or even a walk by the beautiful marina of Porto Arabia (of course when the weather permits)… But last week, we had the opportunity to have a different type of a date night.. I was invited for a lovely social painting event organized by Paint The Town Qatar (a division of Trinity Talent Qatar) at The Grill @Grand Hyatt Doha.

When I came to know about them (through their FB page), I instantly fell in love with the idea. Art on a date night! It’s the first of its kind in Doha and let me tell you it was such a fun filled evening!

Now, I know some people get intimidated and go like, “Oh, I don’t know how to paint and all.. what would I do!?”. But they say (and I totally agree), you can have lots of fun ,

“Even if you have never held a brush in your life! 

It’s not about painting a master piece.. it’s about the experience.. the fun… the laughter.. the company.. the freedom to do what you want to do with a brush, some paints and a canvas. I love how they put it…

“When painting with friends, there are no mistakes.. Only happy accidents!

So, this is how it goes.. The PTTQ event happens every other Tuesday from 7 pm to 10 pm. There is a selected painting that the whole group has to paint and the artist takes you step by step, to re-create the painting…. showing you the tips and techniques of achieving the desired effect.

The evening we went, the painting we all had to paint (or try to paint) was called the Misty Mountains. A monochromatic painting with just white and black paints.

When we entered, we were asked to pick our seats, which had all the equipment required (canvas, paints, brushes and an apron too). You don’t have to bring ANYTHING at all and you get to take your masterpiece home! 

They had some snacks and drinks for us while we painted or wanted to take a break from painting.. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, purely meant for entertainment , so don’t take the pressure of how good or bad you are painting! 

There were couples like us, friends , men, women , young and old… Everyone was having fun and doing loads of happy accidents!  It’s perfect for a date night or a friends night out or a team building exercise for your team at work!

Some people, had their own expression and painted their own master pieces while some added their personalities to the Misty Mountains. My husband’s painting had a green tree depicting his patriotism (he probably would bleed green too! lol). We did have fits of laughter about, how his birds looked as if they just had splash in the lake! What a fun memorable night!
