So, I decided to start the Recipe section with something sweet.. It’s the easiest and one of the quickest Pakistani dessert to make… I have whatsapp-ed, emailed, texted (what not!), this recipe to friends and family.. so hoping I don’t have to do that again 🙂
Sooji and Besan ka Halwa
Serves about 5-6 people (depends on who’s eating 😉 )
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Cup Sooji (Semolina)
- 1/2 Cup Besan (Gram Flour)
- 1/2 Cup Oil
- 3 Cardamoms
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 1 Cup Milk
- Almonds and Pistachios
Directions:
1.In a wok, heat up the cardamoms in the oil for a few minutes. Then add the Sooji and Besan together.
2.Stir them periodically and let it fry on a low – medium heat till it changes its color to a little darker shade of brown.
3.Then add sugar and milk together and constantly stir till it gets to the right consistency.
4.Pour it out in the dish you want to serve it in (while its hot) and garnish with chopped pistachios and almonds.
Easy isn’t it? Give it a try and let me know how it turned out.

Hi. Plan to try this out tomorrow, huge suji besan halwa fan. Excuse me if I sound stupid but do the cardamoms go in peeled or whole? 🙈

Hi sehrish,
I normally just crush them a bit just so that they open a bit. They are still whole but just a bit open for the aroma of the seeds to escape the cardamoms.
Best of luck!
